We have reached the last thirty days of the program Monica (my best friend at Cisco) and I launched in August. I have had many great responses and we have helped a bunch of CCIEs out. Some of them did come to me with an axe to grind and those were advised to use the system and talk to their employers. Still others were in a real quandary. This 90 day run was intended to highlight the problem of CCIE number association and the support I will give to CCIEs looking to regain control of their CCIE number. I will continue to help but the activity will return to where it was before, just another part of my day.
I was on the phone today with a CCIE who works for a non-Channel partner. He asked through a Cisco on-line support desk about the association of his number with a channel even though he would only be part time with them. He was told that it is OK to associate his number with them even though he technically really works for another company. Problem is that I have been told 40 hours a week is the minimum by one source and by another that 50% of the resources a channel utilizes in an audit Silver/Gold must work full-time for the channel. The status of the other 50% is still debatable.
The road is littered with the bodies of those with good intentions!
Maintain control of your CCIE number. If it is tied up or stolen I am happy to see what I can discover about the whereabouts of it. It’s not hard for a CCIE to go to the Cisco website and look for yourself. So if you are surprised by what you find and want to discuss it drop me a line and let’s talk about it.
If you are a channel reading this and need help with the full-time or part-time resource to help earn or maintain your Silver or Gold vendor status I am here to help.
Thanks
