Cisco Brand Protection
I have written of the work I am doing with Monica (my best friend at Cisco) in helping CCIEs regain control of their IE numbers. Her work has led me to interact with the Brand Protection team at Cisco. They are a group of professionals who are scattered around the globe looking out for your welfare. Who is there to recover your stolen hardware? Who is there to stop the obsolete counterfeit products at the border? Who is there to warn you off of buying dumpster diver unlicensed or authorized refurbished gear? Cisco Brand Protection that’s who! Take me to this story...
Micronics is Growing!
Narbik never seems to get much sleep. Really I can talk to him almost any time and he is always on the red eye flights back and forth to many distant lands. He always seems to be writing, which is his passion. Text books are a real tough thing for me to read so writing them in my mind must really be hard. Still he pumps them out like midwife giving birth. He shares some of the burden but mostly he is the author of his many offerings. Recently his Soup-to-Nuts workbook was offered up to CCIE Flyer readers as a giveaway so in the October issue, which Dan (my big brother) and I are very proud of. Take me to this story...
A Conversation with dual CCIE #19860 Piotr Matusiak
Eastern Europe is one of the targeted emerging market areas of focus for my team as we prepare for a push into that region. I have been speaking with the Cisco Talent Lead for that region and it looks like I might actually be going to that region soon. So when I was talking with Narbik recently about his plans to add CCIE Security boot camps to his offerings I was happy to learn that his Security instructor is from Poland. Piotr is a dual CCIE R&S and Security with over 10 years experience in the field. His work is interesting security architecture and risk management in complex enterprise class networks. So when I got a chance to ask Piotr a few questions I jumped. Take me to this story...
Serena Ramovecchi
When I travel I enjoy the opportunity to speak with the Network Academy students in various places around the world. I have not been to Italy yet but I have my fingers crossed! In my work I have reached out to countless CCIEs and I have had many contact me directly. Back in August, “Inspire Awe, the Women of the CCIE Flyer” issue had some great response. One of the CCIEs who responded was Serena CCIE #24052 from Rome. Serena has an interesting story to share so I thought I would start out with this information from the Network Academy Advantage website. Take me to this story...
A Newly Minted CCIE Success Story
What was it like being a CCIE out of work in Nigeria and looking at bleak options? Well I decided to put this one on the spot and interview him for you. Take me to this story...
The Thaw
The thaw is on though. The rest of the year is looking bright for those of us here at CCIE Agent, Limited Jack, M, Dan (my big brother and web master), Charles (my boss at Bridge) and the CCIEs in our network. We have started reaching out to clients in Brazil, Botswana, Texas, Eastern Europe, Mexico, China, Japan, Israel, Australia, and Malaysia to mention a few. The writing is on the wall and we are betting that our efforts in introducing our services to these broad and varied channels will be a good move for our network of CCIEs. Take me to this story...

Real-world feedback: University focus
It is always great to get feedback directly from our customers and I had the privilege of a good exchange of information with Matthew Almand of Texas A&M University. They have a big network, comprised of 25 backbone Catalyst 6500 routers at 10 locations, interconnected by 1G and 10G links. There are 340 buildings, outfitted with a variety of distribution switches, from Catalyst 6500s in the larger buildings to smaller switches like the Catalyst 3750, 3560, 3550, or 2960. The edge switches are Catalyst 2950s and 2960, plus some legacy gear, over 3000 in all. Take me to this story...

What this is all about…(CCIE Candidacy Trail)
I know it is cliché to say, but if CCIE were easy it would be worthless. It would be another paper certification, or another 12-mile ride out my backyard. Five years ago I started toward my CCNA and CCSP, yet never completed. I have accepted that I let excuses get in the way (seems to be a common theme in my life the last decade). I have grown a lot in my professional career since then. I decided a few months ago to put the CCIE in my targets for 2010. Take me to this story...

The Cybersecurity Myth
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said this week it will hire up to 1,000 cybersecurity experts over the next three years to help protect U.S. computer networks. This was part of National Cybersecurity Awareness Month and the announcement was made by DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano, who also said... Take me to this story...

Why SSL?
Using SSL to secure all websites may seem like an odd choice; most websites contain no "nuggets" worth taking, SSL apparently slows the page load time (especially on over provisioned hosting platforms), and it's not clear if doing so will mess up any search engine optimizations. Take me to this story...
The Tale Toolbox of Nickelby

Cisco released IOS v15.0 a few weeks back. There was of course the usual fan fare for this release since it is quite a major update from the v12.x series. I won’t go into details on the new features of this release and what ancient features that have been dropped since we can get that easily from the net courtesy of Dr. Google. Instead, I would like to share my opinion on why v15.0 was released after v12.x and not v13 or v14. Take me to this story...

This is like a boxing championship match and we've just finished the 6th round... but hey it's early yet... we don't ask for quarter... we just get back in the ring, take the punches, we beat it down... Taking a beating may not ever be fun, but it does build character. Take me to this story...

Recruiting 101
A Recruiting Glossary:
From Cisco:
Here is the language we have in Ts&Cs
The lending or transfer of a CCIE credential by its owner to a Channel partner who is not the owner's full-time employer or the equivalent of full time employed, e.g., 40 hours/wk., is a violation of program policy and subject to sanctions. This is also true for partner companies who misuse CCIE credentials, with or without CCIE candidate consent, for unfair benefit. Candidates who violate policy as stated in the Cisco Career Certification and Confidentiality Agreement: Section [4] Examinations: [4.1] http://www.cisco.com/web/learning/le3/le11/learning_certification_agreements.html, may receive a permanent ban on future Cisco examinations and the cancellation of previously earned Cisco certifications. Channel Partners who violate these guidelines in their partner agreements will be immediately deauthorized.
